July's Focus is Holiday skincare

Maybe you've got a holiday planned, somewhere nice and hot where you can soak up the sun, have a few drinks, relax and get a tan. Maybe you're staying at home, waiting to see whether the sun will shine on us. Whatever your plans, makeup and heat are a tricky combination!

As you'll see if you look around on a hot day, not many people look cool, calm and collected - and anyone wearing makeup will find it has the potential to slide off your face, get wiped off in the heat and generally won't be doing what you want it to.

Less is definitely more when the heat is on. Opt for a really light foundation, if you feel as though you need a bit of help to even out your skintone. Menaji's antishine powder which doubles up as a foundation is a good option for your night-time look, it will keep you looking healthy and shine free when you hit the town. The Fontana Contarini Foundation is very light for daytime use in the sun - it's more like a tinted moisturiser and it is perfect for making you look healthy, rather than made-up.

Touche Eclat is a great product to tackle dark circles and disguise imperfections - it's a concealer/highlighter and works by using its light reflecting properties to help conceal and detract from darker areas and blemishes. Again, it's really light and natural looking and perfect for summer skin.

One area which can really suffer in hot weather is your lips. They dry out really quickly in the heat and can crack and be very painful, even getting sunburned if you're really unlucky. You need to wear an SPF rated lip balm which will moisturise and protect your lips.Menaji's Lip Agent is SPF15 and is non-glossy - it looks very natural and will stop you drying out.

Finally, if you're out in the sun please use a high factor sunscreen. You will still tan, but much more safely and with less risk of skin cancer. If you are really good, you ought to opt for faking it - we've got some great Bronzers available which will make you look like a bronzed god (well sort of)and keep your skin looking great too.

You can opt for a temporary splash of colour from the Fontana Contarini Earthglow bronzing powder, or go for the Menaji Bronze Star Facial Bronzing Gel which develops in under an hour.

Top Tips

- You will probably need to opt for a darker shade of make-up, especially foundation and concealer, for your holiday skin. As you tan you'll need to use a colour to match your skin as your usual products will be too light

- If you're hot and bothered, don't keep applying more and more antishine onto sweaty skin - it will clog and lump. If you need to wear it in hot weather, then splash your face and pat with a towel in between applications to get rid of excess and give you a fresh canvas to work on.

- Keep applying lip balm frequently on hot days. You'll probably wipe or lick it off without noticing so always have it handy.

- Always after applying make sure there are no traces of foundation on any facial hair
