John asked:
I am in my late teens and have acne and acne scars on my face. It is really affecting my personal life and confidence. Please can you tell me how I can cover it up with makeup - but still look as though I'm not wearing make-up?
Angela says:
If you have severe acne scars then a remedial camouflage cover cream would be advisable. The BASC (British Association of Skin Camouflage) would be the association to contact. They will put you in touch with a trained skin camouflage artist who will advise you on the best product to use.
If the scarring is light then there are some make-up products which may well help the area to look better - a light foundation will help to even out the skintone and get rid of the angry red scars. Menaji's anti-shine powder is good as you can use it as a foundation or a powder. If you dampen a sponge and apply the powder it gives a light coverage which drys matt and looks natural. Alternatively you could try some of our concealers, such as MYEGO or Menaji - you can literally just apply these to the problem spots and leave the rest of your skin alone - this can give a really natural result.
HOWEVER - If you still have acne breakouts then covering it with makeup could potentially make the condition much worse depending on the makeup ingredients. We endeavour to stock products which are as natural and free of nasties as possible but you do need to be careful not to make sore skin much worse. We have a page here with specific acne advice. I recommend Dermalogica’s Medibac range which I sell on my website and I find is very good for mild/moderate cases of acne. If the acne is severe then you really need to seek medical guidance from your GP who may well send you to a Dermatologist.
