Have you ever wondered which shade is right for you when you're choosing a concealer or antishine/foundation? In order to help get the most natural effect you need to get the closest match to your skintone. We thought that you might like us to give you a guide to choosing the right shade for your skin colour. Sadly none of the manufacturers are currently able to offer samples yet so we will try to give you a good insight into the various colour options. We are using the Menaji colour guides as most of our enquiries relate to the Menaji concealer and antishine
LIGHT SHADE
The light shade is designed for really pale skins. If you are very light skinned and don't tan then this is the shade for you. This skin type tends to suffer from blotchiness so our concealers and foundations are perfect to help even out your skintone and naturally disguise any redness.
Tips for this skin type -take care to go easy with any products - pale, delicate skin will be more prone to looking 'made up' so just use a tiny amount at a time until you've achieved the look you want. If you want to add some natural looking colour then consider using one of our Fontana Contarini foundations which are very very lightweight, much more like a tinted moisturiser. This will give you a subtle healthy glow. Opt for the Light option (7). If you are considering using eyeliner then opt for a brown shade rather than black as it will be too heavy for your colouring. Black mascara might also be too heavy but give it a try - if you are dark haired then it will be fine but if you are a red head or blonde then it might just be too much and you might want to opt for a clear mascara
to add definition but not colour. If you are using concealer, choose the light shade in Menaji and use it sparingly.
Celebrities with this skintone are: Ronan Keating, Prince Harry and even Tom Cruise and Zac Efron although we usually see them made up so we are just guessing!
MEDIUM SHADE
The light shade is designed for you if you have a standard caucasian skintone. This skin type is pretty easy to deal with as it isn't prone to anything other than the usual pimples & blemishes. This skin type tans if care is taken to protect it with sunscreen and if you have this skin type then you can pretty much try any men's makeup products - lucky you!
Tips for this skin type -as with fair skin, take care to go easy with any products - although you can get away with using more, just use a tiny amount at a time until you've achieved the look you want. Our Fontana Contarini foundations will help you to get a healthy glow and you can try light or medium depending on the effect you prefer - both shades are very subtle and just give you a 'polished' look. You can use the Menaji antishine/foundation to help you even out any uneven skin patches and prevent shine. For concealers choose either Menaji medium Camo or alternatively MyEgo, Taxi Disguys or Touche Eclat will work very well with your colouring. You can use eyeliners and mascaras in black provided that you build up the colour gradually - if you apply it too heavily it might look too much. Blondes will always need to go sparingly with makeup even if you have a medium skintone.
Celebrities with this skintone are: Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Russell Brand, Robbie Williams
BRONZE SHADE
The bronze shade is designed for olive skins. If you have a typical mediterranean or far eastern complexion then you would probably fall into this category. This skin colour already has a lovely naturally healthy glow and might just have a tendency to become greasy. You can use most of our products but probably won't need some of them as your colouring won't need them.
Tips for this skin type - our Menaji bronze Camo Concealer and bronze Antishine/Foundation will be perfect for you if you have undereye bags or shiny skin - both traits of this skin type. You won't need our Fontana Contarini foundations unless you're feeling a bit jaded in the winter months and need a slight hint of colour. Opt for the Medium option (8). You can use mascara and eyeliner to lengthen lashes and give definition to your eyes if you need it. You can also use our tinted lip balms to give your lips a healthy sheen. The key to keeping your skin looking great is to ensure that it's in tip top condition - make sure you exfoliate regularly and moisturise often to ensure that you don't get a build up of dull dead skin.
Celebrities with bronze colouring are Antonia Banderas, George Cloony, Enrique Eglesias and Ricky Martin
DARK SHADE
The dark shade is designed for anyone with afro-caribbean colouring. It will also apply to dark skinned asian skintones. The dark skintone doesn't need much help to look great - if you are lucky enough to fall into this group then you probably already have a great naturally healthy glow. You might suffer from acne scars, however, which on your skin colour show up as very dark scars. There is not a lot you can do about this but you might find a touch of concealer could help to tone them down.
Tips for this skin type -to maintain your fabulous healthy glow make sure that you exfoliate and moisturise regularly to avoid 'dull' skin. If your skin has a tendency to look chalky just make sure that you drink lots of water and keep hydrated, and follow a good skincare routine. For small scars and blemishes try the Menaji Camo concealer 'dark' shade - to deal with too much shine, use our Menaji antishine/foundation. This shade is used by Barack Obama and we think he always looks great. You can use mascara and eyeliner to add definition and lengthen lashes and you can also use any of our tinted lip moisturisers.
Celebrities with this skin type include Barack Obama, Denzel Washington, Jimmy Mistry and Fifty Cent.
